The Heartbeat of My Silence
A School Teacher’s Memoir of Survival, Healing, and Self-Acceptance.
You Were Never Meant to Be Quiet
In The Heartbeat of My Silence, Barbara breaks the silence she lived for a lifetime. With raw honesty and extraordinary courage, she shares the journey through trauma, betrayal, faith, identity, and ultimately self-acceptance. Her story is not only of survival, but one of healing, resilience, and the powerful discovery that is is never too late to reclaim your voice.
This memoir is a testament to the human spirit and a reminder that no matter how deep the silence of fear, shame, pain or any other circumstance faced in life, your voice still matters. Silence does not have the final word.
Why I Wrote This Book
The Heartbeat of My Silence, was written for the soul who has struggled with their own sexuality and self-acceptance.
It is for the curious mind and the one who strives to understand and walk in the footsteps of the LGBTQ+ community despite their own fears, judgements, and personal beliefs.
It is for the soul who has survived any form of dysfunction, abuse, trauma, or neglect in their life and has risen victorious or is currently attempting to heal from the wounds of the past.
It is for those who have been taught to condemn - to see others as unworthy or wrong.
I invite you to read this memoir with an open heart and mind, and to consider the power of unconditional love.
About the Author
Barbara (Barb) Rebon is a dedicated elementary school teacher with 30 years of experience in both private and public education. She is deeply passionate about inspiring children to reach their fullest potential—often reflecting on her own experiences as a student who, like many she has taught, faced personal struggles, academic challenges, and the weight of unspoken hardships.
Although Barb holds a Master’s degree in Education, a K–12 Principal’s Certification, and a K–12 Spanish Certification, she credits her life experiences—not her credentials—as the true foundation of her success as an educator.
Her journey, marked by childhood trauma and years of internal struggle, could have led her down a very different path. Instead, those experiences shaped her into a compassionate, empathetic, and resilient individual—qualities that have allowed her to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, both in and beyond the classroom.
Through faith, perseverance, and a commitment to self-understanding, Barb has embraced her identity and found freedom in living her truth.
Barb is a survivor—and her story is one of hope, healing, and transformation.
